Qualified or not?

May 24, 2026    Pastor Jacob Gray

This powerful message confronts us with a fundamental question that shapes our entire faith: Is Jesus truly qualified to be our High Priest? Drawing from Hebrews chapters 4 and 5, we're challenged to examine whether Jesus meets the biblical requirements to offer us access to God. The sermon walks us through three essential qualifications that every high priest must possess: being called by God, having compassion for sinners, and willingness to make sacrifices. Through careful examination of Scripture, we discover that Jesus perfectly fulfills each requirement. He was called by the Father, who declared Him His beloved Son. He wept over Jerusalem and prayed with tears for those He came to save, demonstrating profound compassion. Most significantly, He willingly laid down His life on the cross, conquering sin, death, and the grave. This isn't just theological theory—it's the foundation of our confidence to approach God. When we understand that Jesus is both willing and qualified to meet our needs, it transforms how we bring our burdens, sins, struggles, and fears to Him. We're invited to come boldly, not because we've earned it, but because our High Priest has the authority, compassion, and power to handle whatever we bring.
