He is above all
The book of Hebrews opens with a powerful declaration that challenges us to examine the Jesus we worship. This passage reminds us that there is only one true Jesus of Scripture, and any version we create based on our preferences, feelings, or cultural expectations becomes an idol. We learn that Jesus is not merely a good teacher, a prophet, or an enlightened being. He is royalty, the eternal God in human flesh, positioned above all angels and all creation. The writer emphasizes that Jesus is the brightness of God's glory, the expressed image of His person, and the one who holds all things together by the word of His power. This matters profoundly because if Jesus is not who the Bible declares Him to be, then all the promises attached to Him crumble. Our salvation, our status as children of God, our eternal inheritance all depend on Jesus being exactly who Scripture says. As joint heirs with Christ, we inherit not some things or most things, but all things. This is not religious activity or church attendance; this is the foundation of our faith. When we truly grasp who Jesus is, we cannot help but respond with transformed lives, seeking righteousness and rejecting lawlessness, not out of obligation but out of love for the One who gave everything for us.
