Walking requires a choice

Feb 1, 2026    Pastor Jacob Gray

Walking with God isn't just a spiritual metaphor—it's a daily choice that determines whether we experience blessing or struggle through life on our own strength. Drawing from Psalm 128:1 and 2 Kings 8:27, we're confronted with a powerful truth: blessed is everyone who fears the Lord and walks in His ways. But what does that actually mean for our everyday lives? This message cuts through religious platitudes to reveal that we face a constant decision—will we walk in God's ways or in the ways of the world? There's no middle ground. King Ahaziah chose to walk in the way of Ahab, embracing idolatry and evil, and his story serves as a sobering reminder of what happens when we replace God with other priorities. The challenge isn't just about avoiding big sins; it's about the small, hourly choices we make. Do we trust God's Word as our guide, or do we rely on worldly wisdom? Are we walking by faith, or are we dragging along in unbelief? The beautiful promise is that when we genuinely fear the Lord and follow His ways—denying ourselves daily and taking up our cross—we step into a life of true blessing. Not the absence of trials, but the presence of God's joy, peace, and provision even in the valleys. The question we must answer honestly is: when was the last time we could genuinely say we're blessed and mean it from the depths of our hearts?
